Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that the Delhi government is going to provide pulse oxymeters to Corona patients recovering under home isolation. He said that every district will have oxygen concentrators, Delhi will have a helpline and the team will come to the homes of the recovering patients to provide you oxygen. Delhi has 25,000 active COVID-19 cases, around 12,000 people under home isolation. He also said that in the last one week there is a rise of only 1000 active COVID-cases in Delhi. The Delhi Chief Minister asserted that Delhi is testing 18,000 people every day for Covid-19, which has tripled in the last few weeks from 5000 tests per day. CM Kejriwal said that the country is fighting two wars against China, one is at the border and another against the virus from China, and asserted that people should not retreat in their fight against Corona, just as India’s 20 brave soldiers did not back down on the border.
Addressing a digital press briefing on Monday, CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “Delhi has seen a surge in the cases of Corona, and while on one hand, we are trying to bring the situation under control by working together with the Central government and the people of Delhi, on the other hand, we are trying to provide the best treatment to the people who have been infected with Corona. There are around 25000 active cases in Delhi. Around 33000 people have recovered and gone back to their homes, and there are 6000 people in the hospitals and 12000 Corona patients are recovering under home isolation. A week ago, there were 24000 active cases in Delhi, which means that in one week, there has been a surge of only 1000 cases and the number of recovering people is the same as the number of people who are getting infected. This gives us hope that things are slowly stabilizing.”
In the last few days, the Delhi government has increased testing up to three times. “Earlier, people were having a tough time getting tested, but now I believe that people must be getting tested without many complications. Earlier, around 5000 tests were conducted per day, which has now increased to 18000 tests per day. Some labs were involved in unacceptable activities, we have taken action against them since these labs were showing positive results of the people even when they were not infected or were tested negative for Corona. Now, all the labs have been directed t work on their full capacity and to work on a fair basis,” he said.
With the help of the central government, Antigen tests have also been started in Delhi, which gives the results in around 15 minutes.
CM Kejriwal said, “All the people with very mild symptoms or who are asymptomatic, are treated at their homes. Our team assists them with daily calls and advises them on what to do on a daily basis. The only issue that Corona is that the patient may experience a shortage of breath and his/her oxygen level may fall down. In that case, lives will be saved if the patients are given oxygen support in time. Delhi government will provide oxy-pulse meter to all the patients who are recovering under home isolation. The patients can use them in their period of recovery and can return to the government after they have fully recovered. If you are in home isolation and recovering from Corona, you may check your oxygen levels at home in every one-two hours, and if your oxygen level is low, you can call on a number provided by us. Every district will have a concentrator, and the team will carry the concentrator to you to regulate your oxygen levels. You will also be immediately shifted to the hospital if required.”
CM Arvind Kejriwal said that on 12th June, there were 5300 beds occupied in all the hospitals in Delhi, and today, 6200 beds have been occupied, which means that only 900 more beds have been occupied in the last 10 days, whereas the number of Corona cases went up by 23000 new cases. “This means that the number of new patients admitted in the hospitals for Corona is the same as the number of people who are recovering the hospitals and going back to their homes. And, out of all the Corona cases, we have very few serious cases of Corona, and mild or asymptomatic cases are more, who are recovering at their homes and who do not require admission in the hospitals. While 6200 beds are occupied today, around 7000 beds remain vacant. There was some chaos a few days back for the availability of beds. The Delhi government has worked on a war-footing to increase the number of beds in government and private hospitals for the people,” he added.
He said, “We are getting the support of the Central government all this while, and the center and Delhi government are working together to fight against Corona. This is not the time to play politics or fight, because if we fight against each other, we will lose our battle against Corona.”
CM Arvind Kejriwal said that people and all political parties must stand united against China for attacking Indian soldiers on the border, and against Corona, without any politics on the issue. “The entire nation is fighting two battles against China. The first is the virus that spread through China, and the second is its battle against China on the borders. Our doctors and nurses are fighting the battle against the virus, and our soldiers are fighting the battle on the border against China. These two battles ought to be fought by us, there should be no politics on this and all political parties must come together to fight these two battles. Our soldiers did not turn back when they fought on the border, and we should also not turn back until we win this battle,” he added.
