Krishna Janmashtami 2023 Puja Vidhi
In the morning, bathe and change into fresh clothes. In the evening, prepare for prayer by decorating Sri Krishna’s cradle and cleaning the shrine using Gangajal. Sit quietly, place the Lord Krishna statue on the cradle, or a wooden stool if you don’t have one. Offer water to the deity’s feet (padya) and give water to the Lord (arghya). Perform achaman by offering and sipping water. Bathe the idol with a mix of milk, curd, honey, ghee, and Gangajal.
Later, use these ingredients to make a sweet offering. Dress the idol, give a sacred thread, apply sandalwood paste, and adorn with a crown, jewelry, peacock feather, and flute. Offer flowers, Tulsi leaves, light incense and an oil lamp. Give butter, sugar, and a mix of coconut, betel nuts, turmeric, paan leaves, and red powder. Sing a prayer and walk around the idol. Fold your hands, seeking protection for your family as you pray together.

Significance of Krishna Janmashtami
According to Hinduism’s holy writings, Lord Sri Krishna was born on the eighth day of the dark part of the month of Bhadrapada. This happened in the town of Mathura to parents Devaki and Vasudeva. Devaki was the sister of Mathura’s demon king, Kansa. A prophecy said that Kansa would be defeated by Devaki’s eighth son. To avoid this, Kansa imprisoned Devaki and Vasudeva and tried to kill their children to stop the prophecy.
When Devaki gave birth to her eighth son, the whole palace fell asleep by magic. Vasudeva protected the baby from Kansa by taking him to Yashodha and Nanda’s house in Vrindavan during the night. This baby was Lord Vishnu’s form and was named Sri Krishna. He eventually defeated Kansa, ending his frightening rule.
