Dy CM Sisodia assures that Delhi Govt. is taking up all necessary steps to send migrant workers back to their hometowns

Addressing a Press Conference here on Tuesday, Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister of Delhi, Shri Manish Sisodia appealed to the migrants to not set out on foot for their hometowns as Delhi Government is arranging for their travel through Special Shramik Trains. The Delhi Government is also bearing the travel costs of the migrant workers who are heading back to their hometowns during the lockdown situation in the wake of the pandemic COVID 19.
“196 Special Shramik trains have carried 2,41,169 people (migrant workers) back to their hometowns till May 25,” said Dy CM Manish Sisodia. “Out of these, 93 trains carried 1.25 lakh migrant workers to various districts of Bihar and 84 trains carried 96,000 migrant workers to Uttar Pradesh,” he added.
As the Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi addressed the Press Conference, another 18 trains carried 30,000 migrants, for states (primarily Bihar and UP) across the country, today. Delhi Govt. has sent 2,71,169 migrant workers to their hometowns by Special Shramik trains uptill now.
Talking about the strict procedure being followed by the Delhi Govt. in preparing lists of people fit enough to travel, Shri Manish Sisodia said, “People are being screened at their nearby schools. Their body temperature is being checked and lists are prepared of those people not showing any symptoms of COVID 19. Food and snacks are being provided to those who are travelling.”
He also appealed to the people to have faith in the efforts of the Delhi Government and highlighted how CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal is keeping a keen eye on the migrants’ data and requesting other states to allow trains to carry those who want to return to their hometowns. “As I have already said, everyone in Delhi will be treated as a citizen of Delhi. And we would take care of their food and shelter requirements. 2500 camps have been set up in schools all over Delhi to provide meals to 10 lakh people almost everyday (lunch and dinner). Almost 70 lakh people under PDS category have been provided ration. And 38 lakh under non PDS have been provided ration via e coupons.”noted Shri Manish Sisodia
