Delhi govt will appoint nodal officers at the executive engineer level to monitor issues related to construction workers: Gopal Rai

Labour and Development Minister of Delhi Mr Gopal Rai on Tuesday held a meeting with all the government agencies to discuss various issues related to the construction workers. He said that the Delhi government has decided to appoint nodal officers at the level of an executive engineer to disseminate information about various Delhi government initiatives to the labourers. The main participants of the meeting were Principal Secretary (PWD), Secretary (Labour), Chief Engineer of CPWD and all three MCD along w with other senior officers.

The Minister apprised all the senior officers that the benefits during Covid-19 to construction labour can be transferred through Board only if they are registered. The Minister stated that an online portal has been launched for registration or renewal of construction workers. The link given is www.edistrict.delhigovt.nic.in . “The Delhi government has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 again to the construction workers in the wake of the extended coronavirus lockdown. Last month also we did the same. There are around 40,000 construction workers registered with the board,” said Mr Rai.

He said, ” A Nodal Officer at least Executive Engineer level be appointed by the concerned department. The Nodal Officer will disseminate the information regarding the relief of Rs. 5000/- during Covid-19, registration of construction labour and various types of welfare schemes and benefits given by the Delhi government so that there is no lack of trust between the govt and the labourers.”

It was desired that the contractors shall be brought in the ambit of BOCW Board through their registration also. All the participants welcomed the idea of appointment of Nodal Officer and stated that training or briefing shall be conducted at regular interval by the Board to update the government agencies about the welfare schemes of construction workers.

Mr Rai have directions for the name and contact numbers of Nodal Officers to be furnished within two days, training cum briefing session to execute and improve the number the registered construction worker to be conducted and to disburse the relief the maximum possible construction workers.
