On Tuesday, Cabinet Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam called an urgent meeting of the Department of Social Welfare and Department of Women and Child Development to discuss the possibility of providing ration and other nutritional food supplements to women and children who are a part of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Program.
“There are several women and children who are dependent on Anganwadis for basic nutrition and primary healthcare needs. In view of the nationwide lockdown due to the spread of coronavirus, Anganwadi workers are providing primary healthcare facilities right at the doorsteps of pregnant women and children. In these difficult times, they need more nutritious supplements also to meet their basic health requirements. I have asked the officials to explore the possibilities of replacing panjiri and other items given to Anganwadi children with more nutritional supplements like peanuts and sprouted grams.” – Rajendra Pal Gautam
During the meeting, the Cabinet Minister lauded the work done by Anganwadi workers who are doing tremendous work to help women and children by providing them with basic nutritional facilities right at their doorstep.
“All our social workers especially the Anganwadi workers are corona warriors. They are going door to door to create awareness regarding coronavirus. They are also providing food and other supplements to pregnant women and children. In this crucial time, they are our heroes. ” – Rajendra Pal Gautam
Rajendra Pal Gautam also assessed the work done by the Department of Social Welfare during the lockdown in helping people receive timely pensions which includes senior citizens, Differently-abled and widow pensions.
During the nationwide lockdown, the Delhi Govt announced doubling the pensions for senior citizens, widows and differently-abled citizens. Over 8 lakh beneficiaries received Rs 5000 in their accounts. After this big move, the Delhi Government is aiming to provide sanitary napkins to women in need.
